In the pines
Cozy + Resourceful
In the Pines resembles a wild, isolated existence that relies both on resourcefulness and small community during the winter months. This is a space to focus on introspection, to reflect on the world and nature around you, and to focus on simple but meaningful community efforts to get through the darker months.

winter in the city
Festive + Curious
Winter in the City is all about celebration, exploration, and aimless wandering. This space embodies the joy of solitary play and activities, as well as those festivities we enjoy with friends and family. You can easily find yourself wandering through snowy, lamp lit streets solo or in a rowdy pack.

In the pines Checklist
- Prepare the cabin by collecting firewood and collecting various blankets for warmth.
- Keep a hot kettle of tea on the stove at all times (or most of the time).
- Take a peaceful walk around the property, enjoy the quiet scenery.
- Take lots of naps, you’ll have more work to do tomorrow!

In the Pines Writing Prompts
Enjoy our two writing prompts inspired by “In the Pines”, follow along or make them your own!

1. Cabin Fever
Write a short story about a cozy day in a cabin, deep in the pines. Tell us where your main character likes to go, what they like to do, and a certain project they are working on. What is the characters day like as they work on their project? What do they do to keep the boredom away? How does the cabin look and feel?

2. It takes a village
Write a short story about a small mountain community in the winter. Tell us about the town, the different people who live there, and maybe some small town drama. Is this a fun, festive community or a mysterious and strange place? What new problem has arisen that requires everyone to come together in order to resolve it?

Winter in the City Checklist
- Meet up with friends at a local café.
- Enjoy a chilly evening in a jazz club or at the ballet.
- Stock up on snacks for impromptu winter storms.
- Keep a crackling fire going (on the tv…with the indoor heat blasting!)
- Plan a day of winter activities: Ice skating, building snowmen, and admiring the festive decorations.

winter in the city Writing Prompts
Enjoy our two writing prompts inspired by “Winter in the City,” follow along or make them your own!

1. New In Town
Write a short story about a main characters first few days in their new city. It’s the winter season so there is a ton to do! Where do they go? Who do they meet? Maybe you can describe their new, dreamy city apartment and the places they explore in their new neighborhood.

2. Central Perks
Tell a story about a close group of friends who live in the city and all of the shenanigans they get into during the winter. Maybe someone has gotten injured and they need to schlep them from event to event. Perhaps the gang does a winter bar crawl every year and this year is especially snowy!
